Abstract
Nowadays, air actuators are widely used in industry with different many types of pneumatic controllers. However, few articles discussed the dynamics of air motors and performance of controllers. This paper intends to analyze the dynamics of air motors and design suitable speed controllers. The speed of an air motor in this research is controlled by an electrical control valve for adjusting the pressure and flow rate of inlet air. The parameters of the system are identified through step responses in the research. It is found from experiment results that the dead-zone of an air motor is quite significant and will affect the overall system performance. Hence, the effect of friction and inlet pressure must be carefully analyzed when designing the speed controller
