Abstract :
A low cost three-phase rectifier for regenerative solid state power conversion is presented using an innovative hybrid topology. This topology uses a network with thyristors and IGBTs in addition to a three-phase diode rectifier. This circuit exploits the best features of both devices, the thyristor and the IGBT, to reduce the cost of regenerative drives with respect to a six-IGBTs three phase full bridge. In addition the new circuit features improved input power quality compared to a diode rectifier and it is capable of meeting the limits recommended by IEEE 519. This paper presents description and analysis of the new converter topology, together with the modulation and IGBT/thyristor commutation strategies by simulations and experimental results
