Abstract :
Recently, much attention has been devoted to cognitive radio network (CRN) and consequently, it renews the interest in improving the performance of wireless mesh networks (WMNs). It has been proven that cognitive radio technology combined with multi-radio multi-channel technology is a promising way for wireless network performance improvement. At the same time, they also lead to some new challenges for network architecture design and protocol optimization. This paper presents a multi-radio cognitive wireless mesh network architecture-CRMesh, which integrates the cognitive radio (CR) technology with existing wireless mesh network technologies seamlessly. A 3G Model is proposed, which can describe CRN exactly from the perspective of packet forwarding. The optimization issue of higher layer network control protocols is explored on the viewpoint of resource allocation. A novel resource allocation scheme and corresponding cross-layer optimization framework are proposed. This paper presents an overall scheme of cognitive wireless mesh network architecture design and protocol optimization.
