Abstract :
The aim of the AEOLOS project is to develop methodology and toolset for decision support in a product end-of-life situation based on economic, environmental and social criteria promoting sustainability. This methodology and toolset is exemplified through the European WEEE-directive on recycling of electric and electronic equipment. The output of the project is a descriptive methodology detailing steps to be followed in determining the most appropriate EOL treatment decision based on economic, environmental and societal criteria. The basis of the decision is a defined product scenario comprising EOL options linked to a detailed product description model which is assessed based on critical economic, environmental and societal performance indicators and compared with alternative scenarios with alternative EOL options and product routes.
