Abstract
A linearly polarized stacked patch antenna with a perpendicular feed substrate is presented. The stacked patch is coupled to a microstrip feed using a slot in the ground plane of the patch and a slot in the perpendicular substrate. The antenna is implemented using RT6002 substrates with an operating frequency of 20 GHz. The stacked patch uses an adhesive layer to reduce the sensitivity of the configuration to the gap between the stacked patch and feed substrate. Performance of the antenna element has been optimized in an infinite linear array configuration. A finite array consisting of eight elements has also been analyzed for various scan angles. Computed reflection coefficient, realised gain, and radiation patterns are presented for the linear array element, and computed radiation patterns for various scan angles are reported for the eight-element linear array.
