Abstract :
Summary form only given. In the operation of microwave generators, either oscillators or amplifiers, the kinetic or potential energy of the electrons is converted into the energy of the RF field. The energy conversion is based on an interaction process between the electrons and an electromagnetic field. The process is certainly nonlinear and has sufficient conditions to develop complex dynamics, especially chaos. In this paper, further investigation into the operation of the plasma-filled diode in presence of magnetic field is carried out. One pair of integro-differential equations are derived to show the dynamics of the planar plasma-filled diode. In the presence of magnetic field, the nonlinear dynamics of the system are investigated under different control parameters, i.e. the ratio of ion/electron charge density at the entrance electrode, the spatial separation of the electrodes and the magnetic field itself. The result shows that the magnetic field can act as a convenient control means in the generation or control of the dynamics in a plasma-filled diode. With the help of some typical analysing methods, such as the phase-space trajectories and bifurcation diagrams, the transition for the system from oscillation to chaos has been exhibited in the presence of magnetic field. It has also been established that the system is able to operate in the following four distinct dynamical regimes: steady, oscillatory, chaotic and unstable.
