Abstract
Crimes are a major societal problem for all nations. Consequently, in order to control crime effectively, police forces need to develop new methods to analyze and monitor crime. Crime analysis and monitoring involve the use of data from different government units/agencies. Many types of data are collected from several heterogeneous sources in different formats and from different platforms. The purpose of this paper is to propose a crime analysis and monitoring framework that can support data exchange and model sharing from heterogeneous sources. To achieve the aims of this framework, the service oriented architecture (SOA) was used as a basis way to support the proposed framework. Finally, a case scenario was used to demonstrate the proposed framework by first comparing the work processes in a car theft scenario using traditional methods and then by using the proposed framework. The comparative results found that the traditional methods lack in several features that could be achieved with the proposed framework.
