Abstract :
Partial discharge (PD) detection may be the most efficient and most sensitive diagnostic method for XLPE power cables and the potential effect of the discharge can be estimated on the basis of PD characteristics. A new method for detecting PD in XLPE power cables at VHF with a special designed wide frequency bandwidth current transducer (CT) is described in this paper. Quick sampling and digital processing of data based on wavelet and fractal. theory for PD diagnosis is presented to identify the nature of insulation defects causing discharge
