Abstract :
The numerous investigations of vegetation scattering and emission properties carried out both in the countries CIS and abroad have proved an opportunity of their usage for remote monitoring of earth covers. Despite considerable successes in modeling, the processes of electromagnetic wave interaction with vegetation, the experimental investigations are still essential and their results expand the data bank for development and improvement of existing models. In this paper experimentally investigated scattering and emission performances of different vegetation covers are presented. The measurements are conducted using both airborne and ground-based 8 mm wavelength radars and radiometer. The seasonal and angular dependences of backscattering intensity and the seasonal emission performances of cereals are investigated, the data on linear signal attenuation in vegetation have been obtained.
