Abstract :
This paper presents the Australian National Electricity Market (NEM) context around which dynamic models for generating systems (conventional power stations, wind farms, etc.) must be provided. It firstly identifies the need for models in terms of the operation and development of the NEM, and to assess the performance and impact of proposed new generating system connections. Then it provides an overview of the requirements for model provision and model validation, and further describes the Generating System Model Guidelines, developed to provide guidance on the technical requirements relating to models. Lastly, the paper also covers some of the current and future challenges in the NEM associated with generating plant models and the implications on the accuracy of the power system model.
