Abstract
A video codec for packet switched networks is presented. The codec combines multiresolution decomposition with priority progressive coding (PPC) to divide each frame into packets. Simulations modeling a subband/PPC video coder and switching network with packet loss demonstrate the high quality of service without suffering from visual degradations such as edge effects common in blocked discrete cosine transform (DCT) coders
