Abstract
In conclusion, after optimization of the repeater output power, no degradation in case of channel failure was observed in a 6000-km 8 X 2.5 Gbit/s WDM transmission. The SNR degradation induced by cable loss increase and pump failures on a 4 X 2.5 Gbit/s 4600-km transmission nas only 1 dB higher for the upper wavelengths compared to the lower wavelengths
