Abstract :
Enhancing efficiency of photovoltaic (PV) cells in an effective manner is a challenging endeavour in PV industry. The Planar micro optical solar concentrator (PMOSC) cell, which usually involves complex device architecture as well as high quality, high cost concentrating glasses as micro lens in the collector, are presently the most advanced type of cells used in solar industry. In this paper, we proposed simple and better absorption geometry of the PMOSC cells in the form of micro holes that can rapidly improve the absorption efficiency. However, unlike the PMOSC device, our concentrator uses less expensive silica glass. Our simulation study shows that the absorption efficiency of the incident light of the PMOSC cell can be improved over 70% using the proposed Micro-hole based cell geometry.
