Abstract :
This paper concerns the re-design of generator compensators to improve frequency performance of power systems when the penetration of wind power is high. To assure system stability, a passivity-based decentralized control framework is developed for power systems by introducing a storage function derived from the entropy of individual generators. Based on the network topology, line and machine parameters, and the point of interconnection of the wind farm, a sensitivity measure is defined to help select a set of generators to balance wind power fluctuations. A sequential passivity-based decentralized robust control procedure is proposed to guarantee robust performance as well as the closed-loop stability. The effectiveness of the proposed control design is verified using a modified IEEE New England 39-bus test system.
