Abstract :
ADAPTOR is the result of a three-stage research project performed in the “concept, development and evaluation” paradigm. The research project was undertaken to develop active decision support system generators for senior managers, based on the understanding of the influence of personality on human decision making. It was observed that ad hoc systems would have difficulty in providing this type of support as the effort required is much greater than traditional decision support systems. Hence, an architecture was proposed to build active decision support system generators that can adapt to their users based on the users´ personality characteristics. ADAPTOR is an implementation of this architecture. Adaptation is achieved by incrementally building and improving profiles of decision makers and decisions. Criteria preference models are used as the method of maintaining these profiles. The adaptive capability of the system is expected to improve with repeated use, as there is more opportunity for learning
