Video consumption in the process of digital TV-Internet convergence

The process of switch-over from analog to digital television has set up conditions for improvement of quality of experience for consumers of TV services and a better usage of transmission bandwith. The diversity of multimedia content, alternative modalities of transmitting and reception of that content, the increased requirements of consumers for TV and Internet Multimedia services will drive to digital TV-Internet convergence. There is, also, an evolution of consumers´ preferences related to subscriptions to packets of TV services or to accessing free programs using DVB-T technology. In this short survey we present some aspects of interactive digital television standardization state and its trends, as well as objective support that define consumer satisfaction with multimedia services. Some aspects regarding the consumption of TV and multimedia content in Romania are revealed, based on surveys, and an estimate of the trend of subscribers from cable and satellite channels to switch to DVB-T is made.
