Abstract :
This paper introduces a new switching strategy to increase overall productivity for a switched reluctance generator (SRG). This paper presents the idea of using an intermediate freewheeling mode to boost the magnetizing current without taking additional energy from the DC link. Once the optimal motional back-EMF is established, then both switches will be turned off. Although during the freewheeling process no electricity is generated, by proper timing of each region an overall enhancement in productivity of the SRG is achieved. To demonstrate the practicality of the proposed technique, simulation results are provided. These simulations take into account the switching losses caused by semiconductor devices.
