Abstract :
A technique to realize the broadband ISDN (B-ISDN) using the asynchronous transfer mode (ATM) to provide new high-speed data and video services as well as the existing data and voice services simultaneously is proposed. Dividing the ATM universal network into core and edges, the core requires efficient traffic control to assure the quality for various applications. Bandwidth allocation at call setup, based on the load factor of the ATM switches and traffic control at temporary congestion, are simple traffic-control methods to meet this requirement. These traffic control functions are allocated to each node in the core, and they are managed by the traffic management function
