Title :
Network architecture of future full services network
Author_Institution :
British Telecom Res. Labs., Ipswich
Abstract :
Photonics will transform the telecommunications industry by effectively making bandwidth free and distance irrelevant. In turn, this will usurp billing and relegate network management to a spectator sport. Ultimately, we can envisage a zero-switching network managed by autonomous agents with most of the system intelligence at the periphery. All of this is difficult for the industry to subsume and comprehend, but it may be inevitable
