Abstract :
NTT is to start deploying a new fiber-to-the-curb (FTTC) type of STMPON access system to provide mainly POTS/ISDN services in those access areas where old metallic cables need to be replaced with new cables. Fibers will reach the last point before homes on an area-by-area basis. Only the drop cable section, up to about 50 m long, will remain metallic. New broadband services are expected to introduce fibers into this last section and to achieve fiber-to-the-home (FTH)
