Abstract :
Switching operations to energize or isolate a transformer result in voltages and currents of complex waveshapes in the transformer windings. The surges transferred to the coupled nonenergized windings when one winding of the transformer is energized are discussed. The transformer model considered is a complex three-phase model considering the various inductive and capacitive couplings and can handle a variety of primary, secondary and neutral connections. The multiwinding model is used in conjunction with the Fourier transform method to obtain the transient voltage waveform at the primary and secondary terminals and at different points in the windings
