Abstract
Convergence of Ethernet Passive Optical Network (EPON) and IEEE 802.16 (WiMAX) has been proposed to take advantage of the two broadband access technologies while minimizing their shortcomings. One of the main challenges of such converged network is to have a high performance dynamic bandwidth allocation scheme which increases the bandwidth utilization and provides quality of service requirements for different kinds of traffic. In this paper a dynamic bandwidth allocation algorithm to achieve these goals is presented. Experimental results show that the proposed algorithm decreases both average and maximum packet delays for all types of traffic as compared with the previous approaches.
