Abstract :
How efficient a processor power supply operates is determined by several factors: PCB layout, inductor design, and device switching performance. The low threshold voltage and low Rds(on) MOSFET introduces a new challenge in designing an efficient power regulator. Within this paper, we will review the MOSFET´s conduction and switching behavior in a high current environment. With a clear understanding of device operations, designers can better combat the potential problems associated with low power MOSFET technology. We will examine which parameters that need focus and what are the tradeoffs in order to minimize the power dissipation of the MOSFETs
