Abstract
An attempt is made to develop an alternative knowledge representation method using the interpretive structural modeling (ISM) technique. Applying ISM entails generation of oriented and hierarchically arranged digraphs. These are considered a combination of conceptual graphs. The advantage obtained is that digraphs are precise minimum edge maps of the problem domain at hand, based on contextual relation(s) assumed among domain elements. The contextual relations also influence the form of the mapping structure. Since there is sufficient background knowledge in ISM, logical rules which help create an appropriately organized knowledge base are easily obtained
