Abstract :
In this paper, a mobile agent (MA) based system for autonomously retrieving and delivering satellite images, received by globally located receiving stations is proposed. Mobile agent is a new computing paradigm for distributed data processing, which is different to the traditional client/server system for its capability of autonomous scheduling and data management within a communication network. The new mobile computing paradigm for data communication network provides the opportunity of applying advanced information technology to the space science, especially in the area of remote sensing resource sharing, data processing and distribution for earth observing satellites. This proposed MA system for satellite image retrieval and delivery is ideal for those who have no knowledge or cannot afford to establish a satellite receiving station on its own but would require the satellite images resource for research and educational purpose. A prototype system from university satellite image receiving stations is developed to demonstrate the satellite image retrieval and delivery capability of MA-based data communication system.
