Abstract
An analytical model is proposed to improve the performance of emergency message broadcast in VANET that supports both highly dense and sparse traffic conditions. In this paper we propose (i)IEEE 802.11p WAVE mode, that reduces the connection setup overhead (ii)priority schemes for three levels of safety service (iii)D-FPAV congestion control algorithm that supports both traffic & non-traffic situations. The paper also studies the effect of hidden terminal problem in VANET. In the existing system performance analysis is done assuming that vehicle has uniform stationary distribution where as the proposed system takes into account the impact of hidden terminal problem as well as it works well in both sparse and highly dense traffic conditions. The model enables determination of the probability of receiving status and delay in the network. The results are helpful in determining a good trade-off between network parameter such as vehicles status packet sending rate to increase the reliability of emergency message broadcast in vehicular ad-hoc network. Hence in our proposed system, the congestion control mechanism used helps to improve the performance even under harsh vehicular environment.
