Abstract
A new approximation is presented for the class of symmetric bounded real systems, using a new type of nonlinear matrix equation. The originality of this equation consists in its solution. The authors consider the role that the eigenvalues of the matrix solution assume. They are invariant quantities, and each measures an energy contribution appearing in a dual balancing scheme
