Abstract :
This paper presents a tool for the analysis of organic waste, developed by Hydro Quebec Institute of Research. The programme computes waste characterisation parameters and mass flow rates for conditioning of input waste, secondary treatment, drying of sludge, conditioning of digestate, treatment of digestate, storage of liquid and solid effluent, disposal of liquid and solid effluents, and purification, utilization and storage of combustible gas. The specific secondary waste treatment component of the programme analysed in this paper is anaerobic digestion. The programme uses mass balance equations to compute the amount of CH4, NH3, CO2 and H2S produced from anaerobic digestion of organic waste.
