Abstract
State-plane animation is discussed as a powerful tool for characterizing feedback control in power electronic systems. The implementation is simple, and the relationship between different types of control schemes and different types of instability can be easily explained in geometric terms. While state-plane animation is primarily restricted to second-order systems, it provides valuable insights into the mathematics of differential geometry for systems of arbitrary dimension.<>
