Abstract :
Efficient power control is of great importance in the design of high capacity cellular radio systems. The goal of power control is to find optimum transmitter powers such that the number of supported users is maximized. Power control algorithms can be categorized as either centralized or distributed. Centralized power control algorithms require very heavy signaling between the access port (or the central controller) and the terminals. Distributed power control (DPC) algorithms take long to reach the optimum transmitter powers. The authors present a hybrid power control algorithm - distributed power control algorithm with the aid of access port. The algorithm is different from the existing DPC algorithms in the sense that it requires the directions of the access port. Analysis and simulation results indicate that the distributed power control algorithm with the aid of access port outperforms the DPC algorithm in terms of convergence speed and global resource control.
