Abstract :
Summary form only given. The Field Marshal electromagnetic simulation environment (FM-EMSE) is aimed at small research groups involved in electromagnetics design and analysis. Project goals include improved user interface consistency, single-geometry to drive multiple tools and inclusion of legacy codes. The FM-EMSE provides a set of tools for addressing problems in electromagnetics. All of the FM provided simulation tools can be driven from a common geometry generated in the SimpleCAD tool. SimpleCAD is focused on rapid, intuitive generation and modification of 2D simulation geometries. Additional tools take SimpleCAD geometries and automate/assist conversion to simulation grids. This process is broken into two parts: (1) discrete boundary point generation (GenGrid) and (2) grid/boundary node annotation (GridMark). This results in a grid file ready for use by a PDE solution tool. These tools, as well as others that deal with parametric data entry, form the backbone of the FM-EMSE. Their purpose is to provide consistent methods for the creation, entry and preparation of data for simulation. Several FM-EMSE simulation tools are presently under development. All of these tools utilize a common square-grid format with advanced algorithms for enhanced boundary resolution and high-accuracy solvers compatible with a variety of physical PDE´s. The initial toolset focuses on solution of 2D electrostatic, magnetostatic and cw electromagnetic problems in Cartesian and cylindrical geometries. These include tools for the Laplace/Poisson equations, trajectory calculations and cw-electromagnetic eigenvalue/eigenmode problems, see figure below. The present status of the FM environment and the basic FM simulation toolset will be presented.
