  • Abstract
In recent experiments we have demonstrated the generation and propagation of slow soliton-like pulses in nonlinear fiber Bragg gratings. The soliton effects occur at around 10 GW/cm2 where the intensity is sufficient to balance the strong anomalous dispersion of the grating. At higher intensities we have observed additional phenomena, which we discuss here: pulse splitting through a modulational instability and the formation of multiple solitons
