Abstract
Summary form only given. The 10-moment, two-fluid plasma model is derived by taking the first three moments of the Vlasov equation. This yields the scalar continuity equation, the momentum equation vector, and the anisotropic pressure tensor for each of the ion and electron fluids. The model is closed by assuming a zero heat flux condition. Two-fluid effects are captured by the momentum equations while the non-isotropic pressure tensor captures finite Larmor radius effects. The 10-moment, two-fluid plasma model is numerically implemented via an approximate Riemann solver employing the finite volume method. Investigations of a self-consistent, non-linear simulation starting from an equilibrium are then conducted. Instability growth rates and behavior are characterized.
