Abstract :
Open source software (OSS) is becoming increasingly visible throughout the software industry. Not only for the software industry, it is also penetrating numerous aspects of today´s world, such as open innovation and social innovation. The power of OSS, as a radical driver of social innovation, presents a wide array of challenges, not just for the real world, but also for education. The author presents a seven-aspect view model of OSS that describes the diversity and heterogeneity of OSS. Then, the author discusses the impacts and implications of these aspects from the viewpoint of education.
