Abstract :
Our work has centered on researching methods and components required for building a phase locking system for S band CW and pulsed magnetrons. We examine injection and phase locking methods used for controlling magnetrons with external sources. A general system design is discussed, and progress toward practical realization is shown. In particular, a phase lock loop simulation is shown, based on an analog devices design. Additionally, we show spectral measurements and analysis of a low power 2450 MHz magnetron, characterizing the CW performance of a Raytheon RK5609 based source. We also look at pulse performance of the Raytheon source using a Cober 606P pulse modulator. Performance measurements with a coaxial based system are presented. Further work was done with oven magnetrons and waveguide. Computer simulations of common waveguide sizes available for 2450 MHz were run and a WR284 system was assembled. Waveguide system performance data is presented.
