            Abstract :
We have shown that the stretched pulse in long-distance fiber communications has the advantageous features of reduced noise-induced timing jitter and reduced continuum generation in the presence of lumped amplification. These properties make stretched-pulse fiber communications a candidate for high-bit-rate fiber communications systems with large amplifier spacings
