Abstract
In this paper, a model-based power management approach is introduced to handle load sharing and certain failure cases in shipboard power systems. The proposed approach uses the Interaction Balance Principle for solving the interconnected subsystem optimization problem in shipboard power system(SPS). Model predictive control is used at subsystem level, whereas conjugate gradient method is implemented at the coordinator level. This approach tightly follows user defined set of performance specification aiming to reduces the component wearing and the operation cost. Additionally, it can handle the certain failure cases and prevent the system collapse by keeping the frequency within limits. We present the case-study to demonstrate the applicability of the proposed method. The simulation demonstrates handling of the generator failure by tuning no-load frequency and fuel-rate of the generators.
