Abstract :
As penetration of wind energy goes high, many relevant issues have been dealt with. Among them, a novel active power control strategy, which we call load-following, has been investigated recently. While the conventional way is to extract energy from wind as much as possible, the load-following mode allows wind turbine generator to work away from the maximum power extraction. This is meaningful in some islanded micro-grid case where the energy should be limited to meet the local load demand. This paper continues to investigate a possible method to realize the load-following feature of wind turbine generator (WTG). The problems it encounters with WTG inertia are analyzed and solved with the speed up/down averaging (SUDA) method. A configuration for wind farm with improved load-following and frequency support features is then proposed.
