Abstract
The author explains both syntactic and semantic data verification within the context of a test repair loop. He explains how data verification has been used to develop a capability called failure history to learn automatically which defects are the real cause of a given failure. He notes that this can be extended into a heuristic diagnostic capability. However, data verification will continue to be necessary in order to build the empirical knowledge base automatically
