Abstract :
Summary form only given. The X-ray transmission of lithium should be unaffected when powdered lithium hydride is mixed into the soft metal to improve its mechanical properties. The figures of merit for materials in X-ray blast windows suggest that both lithium and lithium strengthened by LiH are viable alternatives to beryllium for protecting protecting soft X-ray diagnostics in high energy density experiments.
