From the basic consumption demand, the income elasticity, actual consumption structure, increment consumption structure, this paper contrasts the characteristics of consumption structure between urban and rural households in Henan province by using ELES model. The main conclusions can be made as follows: there is a large gap of consumption composition between rural and urban households; the rural households spent more on housing but less than eating; the rural households have higher marginal consumption propensity of residence but the urban households have higher marginal consumption propensity of food.
