Abstract
In this paper, we discuss the use of nanophotonics to design and fabricate devices that can be used in diverse application areas. Examples of devices include microlensed-Vertical Cavity Surface Emitting Lasers (VCSEL), resonant-cavity-enhanced photodetector arrays, multiwavelength monolithically grown DFB laser diode arrays, and photonic crystals. Potential applications are discussed, including optical interconnects, WDM-passive optical networks, and bio-sensors.
