Abstract :
Today i rapidly evolving digital communications infrashrcture has been driven forward by the steady advances in integrated circuits. For economic as well as technical reasons,´ the point is rapidly approaching at which IC performance breakthroughs are less likely to derive from semiconductor technology scaling and, more than eve); will have to come from architectural and circuit-design innovations. At the same time, major high-tech companies are less focused on cutting-edge research than ever before. Fortunately, university research and startup companies canfill the innovation gap. We present here a number ofnovel architectures and CMOS integrated circuitprototypes we´ve created at UCLA´and at Pentomics, Inc. Examples covered include: * Direct digital synthesizers * Digital mixers and modulators * Trigonometric interpolators * Rectangular-to-polar converters * Single-chip reconjgurable FFTNFFTprocessors
