Using provincial-level panel data from the Chinese National Bureau of Statistics, we analyze the role that fiscal competition plays in generating the distribution of FDI in China. We find that fiscal decentralization has a significant impact on FDI inflows. We also find that it is different in fiscal competition between regions.
