Abstract
Fingerprint matching is one of the most important problems in an automatic fingerprint identification system (AFIS). In general, we use minutiae such as ridge ending and ridge bifurcation to represent a fingerprint and realize fingerprint matching through minutiae matching. We propose a minutiae matching method based on the vector triangle. This method incorporates the information of ridge lines into the process of determining the reference points in two fingerprint images (the template and input images) and fingerprint matching is realized in the polar coordinate system. Based on experimental results, we observe that the method does not rely on the core points, and, furthermore, it is invariant to rotation and small amounts of scale changes.
