With its wide application in many fields, project management produces apparent effect when it is introduced into military, astronautic, financial, corporate and governmental fields. Distance education shows its vast difference from the traditional distance education as it is developed, and this difference enables the modern distance education managed in the original mode of general education management to be confronted with grave problems: extremely low efficiency in teaching management, disproportionate output-to-input ratio, serious overlap and waste of resources, lagged teaching management and thus the failure to meet the purposes and requirements of education. The development of modern distance education indicates a trend towards marketization, and its operating mode is similar to that of businesses, therefore, it shall be different from the general mode of education management. And project management which is widely applied in various fields can be introduced into distance education management. Based on an analysis of the development and transformation of distance education as well as the conditions required for the implementation of project management, this paper aims to prove that it is feasible to introduce the innovative project management into distance education.
