Abstract
The paper presents a new operational scheme to defend against power system cascading sequences of events, based on the observation that such sequences are often characterized by slow successive component tripping. This paper introduces the Dynamic Event Tree and describes its construction and how a system operator may use it. A prototype implementation on a 21-bus test system is provided.
