Abstract :
The external quantum efficiency of GaN-based LED is low because of the total reflection between air and semiconductor. Many research groups have being working on developing effective methods to improve the extraction efficiency of LED and the surface roughening is one of them which can efficiently improve the efficiency of LED. In this paper, we calculate the extraction efficiency by roughening the lateral surface with photon tracking method. The simulation results show that lateral triangle surface roughening is able to improve extraction efficiency of LED greatly.
