Abstract
Summary form given only. Down to the discrete level, the interplay of discreteness, thermal agitation, and external shear induces spatio-temporal heterogeneity, and affects the fluctuating-dissipation processes and transports of a microscopic liquid. Using a thin 2D dusty plasma liquid sheared by two CW counter parallel laser beams, we track particle trajectories and explore the above issue through digital video microscopy. Non-linear response to the shear stress and non-Gaussian dynamics are observed. The spatial distribution of the transport coefficients, and the relation between micro-transport and spatio-temporal dynamical heterogeneity at different scales are investigated.
