Abstract :
As is known, temporal variations of medium parameters cause alterations in the frequency and amplitude of the electromagnetic wave propagating in the medium. The wave reflection from a medium moving boundary results in the same effect. A combination of these two phenomena may produce a qualitatively new effect, the consequences of which can be both the accumulation of electromagnetic energy and generation of electromagnetic pulses. The investigation of these phenomena is described in the present work. Here the interaction of an electromagnetic wave with a flat dielectric layer is studied when the dielectric boundaries are moving to meet each other starting from the zero moment of time so that after a certain time interval the collapse of the layer takes place. As is demonstrated, this causes excitation of packets of electromagnetic waves with the frequency increasing unlimitedly (in the approximation of an infinitely powerful mechanism which stimulates the boundary motion).
